The situation
Lorain County Health & Dentistry provides medical and dental care to thousands of patients across
Lorain County. The organization was paying roughly $1,500 every month, yet couldn't make a simple change without
submitting a ticket and waiting. Simple tasks such as swapping out a photo were billed for multiple hours when in reality it took only a few minutes.
The design was dated, the navigation menu was messy and confusing, and it did not meet the necessary accessibility standards.
Why it mattered now
For a health center, an inaccessible website isn't just a missed opportunity — it's a barrier to care and a
growing legal exposure. With the Department of Justice codifying WCAG 2.1 AA as the technical
standard under ADA Title II, "we'll get to it eventually" had stopped being a viable plan. The center needed a
site that was demonstrably accessible, easy to keep current, and far less expensive to run.
What we did
We ran a single, bundled migration project — no piecemeal upcharges:
- Migration. We moved every page, all the content, and the existing SEO onto a platform the
staff could actually control, with the domain and hosting registered in the organization's own name.
- Redesign. We rebuilt the site from the ground up — modern, mobile-first, and far more
reflective of the quality of care the center provides.
- Accessibility. Every page was hand-built and verified against WCAG 2.1 AA: alt text,
color contrast, full keyboard navigation, and screen-reader compatibility.
The whole project took eight weeks, and the team was trained to manage the site themselves
before we handed over the keys.
The outcome
The center's monthly website cost fell from about $1,500 to $23 — an annual saving of
$17,724 redirected back toward patient care. The site is fully self-managed, so updating a
provider bio or posting an event no longer means a ticket, an invoice, or a wait. Most importantly, it's
working: the center reports securing new patient requests through the website every month, and patient
satisfaction surveys describe the new site as easier to use.
"With the new website we have been securing numerous new patient requests via the website each
month. We have heard through our patient satisfaction surveys that our new website is more user-friendly for
patients."
